Current setup powerful enough?

Messagepar Moses35i » Jeu 17 Mai 2012 10:11

Hi People!

Currently I can view 720p movies without any hassle. But I was wondering if the setup mentioned below is able to display 1080p movies.

Current Hardware setup:
Dell Optiplex GX280
...Intel® Pentium® 4 DualCore 2.8GHz (hyperthreading enabled)
...2GB DDR2 400MHz Non-ECC
Saphire 6450 1GB DDR3 HDMI output only
Asus DG 5.1 optical output only
Logitech K400 Wireless keyboard+touchpad
Panasonic TX-P42S30eu HDMI input
...1080p 1920x1080 @ 60Hz
...firmware version 1318-1000000
JVC TH-G31 optical input only

Current Software setup:
MS Windows XP SP3 32bit
MS .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
DirectX 9.0c June2010
Catalyst Software Suite 101.5 MB 12.4 4/25/2012
Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 1.6.4235 x86
fddshow rev 4399-20120322

Local network is 100 mpbs but I have planned for a new Gigabit switch in the future. All media is located on a WD Life 2TB.

I have only one profile (just for testing purposes) forced: 5.1 -> 5.1 (All supported formats are on passthrough mode)

As all the used software is 32bit is it helpful to disable hyperthreading? I have disabled all not-used connections in the bios of this machine. The same goes for ITC in Catalist drivers. When enabled the video isn't that clear anymore so I turned it off again. When a 1080p movie (x264) with AC3 sound is played the Video quality is good but the sound stutters all along. What could be the problem? Specs of PC maybe too low for 1080p? Systen resources while playing are around 94%. I know it's a bit high so that just might be the problem...

Any suggestions are more than welcome!

TIA

Corrected some specs, added additional info and explained the audio problem a bit more

Actually, that has nothing to do with your machine... I googled and more than 10 Comments say that the audio skips every few seconds...

There is a sample in the tutorial, if you can play it, you should be able to play anything...

Oh, I missed that. Trying to download the file now. It's a bit slow from time to time. I'll report back then I have tested this. Thanks for your suggestion, QtheSTORM

As the download link didn't work for me, I downloaded it from IsoHunt https://ca.isohunt.com/download/4998048 ... la.torrent
The sound is OK but the video is too slow. I guess my current setup isn't powerfull enough to render this video. It's really a killer Sample

I'll get my hands on some other 1080p movies to test my setup a bit more.

I think your CPU is too slow and your graphic card is not really powerful too for madVR ;)

Ahh oke, that makes sense. I don't use madVR atm but I will be sticking to a max of 720p until I get my hands on a faster setup.

Everybody thanks for your tips and/or suggestions
